EnviroParks hosted a youth awareness programme in Riverlea

EnviroParks offers computer end-user training, call centre training as well as life skills which are all done in the space of three months.

The non-profit organisation EnviroParks hosted a youth awareness programme which was held at the Riverlea Recreation Centre where the organisation is based.

According to the project’s coordinator of EnviroParks, Bongie Sekatane, the aim of the event was for the previous beneficiaries to share their success stories after completing their courses with the organisation and their partners.

Sekatane added that they currently have about fifty beneficiaries that are completing their courses.

EnviroParks offers computer end-user training, call centre training as well as life skills which are all done in the space of three months and thereafter the beneficiaries graduated and some find jobs on their own and others are placed in a database where the organisation can try to place them in the workplace.

“We got guys into CCL projects painting, they were interested in practical skills and not the computer courses so we took them to the company in Industria to do cabinet making, spray painting and more so these guys are doing well now in their employment.”

“Some people have to see others successes so that they can believe in something so we want to show the youth that EnviroPark’s courses do help,” said Sekatane.

Pastor Gregory Boas motivated the students and gave them advice and an idea of what programmes the organisation is looking to offer as well as who they are looking to partner with so that the youth in the community can get quality and professional training.

Guests speakers were Dudley Williams from Yoluntu Tech Skill Centre (a welding company), previous beneficiary Melissa Duma, the owner of Azeamahle Construction, as well as Kurt Lubbe and Mdumiseni Jinsxi who are machine operators at CCL Projects Painters.

After the programme, there was a lunch that was served. Life skills, end-user and call centre and EnviroParks has also partnered with the welding and cabinet making companies and therefore if the youth is interested in that too, they can go to EnviroParks at the Riverlea Recreation Centre to register.

Registration for the next intake is already open, the youth is welcome to go register and the free classes will start in January 2020.
