Memorial service for a learner that allegedly overdosed on drugs

Paying respect to their own.

Learners from Diepdale Secondary School have been left devastated and sad having to deal with the death of one of their fellow learner after he allegedly overdosed on drugs.

The Grade 8 learner from Diepdale Secondary School’s life was cut short and his memorial service was held at the Calvary Church in Diepkloof Zone Six where Bheki Myende spoke passionately about the heartbreaking incident.

The principal of the school, Molate Munakisi joined learners at the church for the memorial service with some of his teaching staff; they conveyed a message from the school which said, “The school is mourning the untimely passing away of Kgotso Sithole.”

Myende urged the learners to be always vigilant about the fact that addiction to drugs is more like a demon and it can invade anyone unsuspecting, anytime. He said, “The devil is like a roaring lion going about looking for whom it may devour.”

The learners were slightly sombre, but they all managed to go to their schoolmate’s memorial service where they were warned about how easy it is to fall into the drug addiction trap.

Learners were advised to be mindful of the company they keep because befriending young people who experiment on substances can only lead to addiction and chaos.

Myende said, “It is very sad indeed how we have to gather about a Grade 8 learner’s life which has been cut short by the demon of drug. We must realise even as parents that the fight against drugs in our society is real.”
