Man confessed to killing his girlfriend and two children in Jabavu

The bodies were found at Zondi and Mofolo Park.

Central Western Jabavu residents were shocked when they discovered a man confessed for killing his girlfriend and two children aged between nine years and ten years.

On Wednesday, November 6 a 48-year old man has been arrested after he allegedly murdered and buried his girlfriend and two children in shallow graves in two separate areas.

This comes after a case of missing persons was reported by family members to the Moroka Police Station on November 1. Police embarked on an immediate search and visited the house in Central Western Jabavu several times on suspicion that the house was the last place where the victims had been seen.

The lifeless bodies of Thandi Lala was found at Zondi near Jabulani Hostel and the bodies of the children were found at Mofolo Park known as Five Roses.

Uncle of the accused Wandile Dlamini said he went to Moroka Police Station to open a case of missing persons on November 1. He told Jabavu Reporter that his relationship with his nephew was not in good terms and the nephew was a religious man.

“Yesterday when he entered the yard, I called the police and Thandi’s family to come and assist us with him because we needed answers.*

He explained that when they asked the accused about Thandi’s and children whereabouts he said, ‘Thandi was sick and her old boss took her and I accompanied the children to meet with someone in the bus.’

Dlamini further explained that the community members got angry and he ended up saying, ‘I will tell the police the truth’ and he was taken to Moroka Police Station.

A Tenant Lindiwe Msimango described the accused as a loving father and husband.  “He loved his children and wife very much and never thought he would do something like this. I won’t say it was a physical abusive relationship but emotional abuse because they feared him.”

The deceased uncle Michael Lala said it has been eight years since Thandi left them and stayed with her lover. “We have been fighting this battle for eight years for Thandi to come back home and she didn’t listen to us.”

“We are deeply hurt as both families because we have been fighting this battle together for eight years,” added Lala.

According to Moroka Police Spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza the 48-year man from Central Western Jabavu was arrested after handed over to the police by community members. “He led police where he buried his 47-year-old wife in Zondi near Jabulani Hostel in the bush. The suspect then led the police to the second scene known as Five Roses at Mofolo Park where the bodies of the children were found.”

Khoza concluded, “Moroka Police want to thank the community of Central Western Jabavu for assisting with the search of the victim’s bodies.”

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt- Gen Elias Mawela said police would prioritise the investigation of cases of violence against women and children.

“We are pleased that the suspect has been arrested and bodies of the victims found as this will assist the family in finding closure. At the same time, I want to urge our investigation team to ensure a watertight case that will ensure a successful conviction and appropriate sentencing in court,” Mawela said.

The perpetrator will be charged with three counts of murder.
