Mapetla residents went on a rampage after the incident and managed to catch one of the suspects and set him alight and was left for dead.

A well-known businessman in Mapetla was brutally killed in an armed robbery that occurred in his business place. It is alleged that two males entered the business area and managed to escape the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and liquor.

Mapetla residents went on a rampage after the incident and managed to catch one of the suspects and set him alight and was left for dead. Roads were closed by the angry mob during the incident.

According to a community leader in that area, Victor Letsholo, residents were not happy following the incident because they believe that the businessman was the only successful entrepreneur in the area and a peaceful person who was also a helping hand in the community.

“I am urging the community to be alert of robbers who are known to be robbing businesspeople using motor vehicles,” said Letsholo.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mpande Khoza said after the robbery, the suspects opened fire as they left the scene, and the owner got shot and rushed to a nearby clinic where he was declared dead.

He went on to say angry residents hunted the suspects and managed to capture one of them and he was then taken to a place which is near to where the robbery took place and set him alight.

According to Khoza, the police found one of the suspects being burnt beyond recognition and the other suspect is still on the run.

Khoza said in such incidents the police are urging the public not to take the law into their own hands in such situations but they should report the matter to the police.

According to Khoza, some victims of crime usually never be satisfied until a person is arrested for allegedly committing a particular crime and convicted and sent to jail.

“We appeal to the community not to take the law into their own hands when they apprehend a suspect but they should call or hand the suspect over to the police,” said Khoza. Going to print, the police were still investing the matter.
