Bapedi Primary School bright learners go for Gold

The Principal at the school, Winston Mogodi explained that these annual awards at the school are a way of showing the learners that the hard work they put in their school work will always be noticed and fairly remunerated.

Every learner happens to like receiving the golden award, apparently and the learners in Bapedi Primary School who have had to watch the other learners receive, Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for performing exceptionally have had nothing but the motivation to pull up their socks.

The Principal at the school, Winston Mogodi explained that these annual awards at the school are a way of showing the learners that the hard work they put in their school work will always be noticed and fairly remunerated.

Principal Mogodi said, “We are very pleased to always hold these learners’ awards and to see them just enjoy being winners. We have engraved their awards with their names and have rewarded each hard-working learner accordingly.”

The host for the awards and deputy principal at the school, teacher Mathematics Matemane who also happens to be the maths genius at the school who helps the young learners comprehend the Mathematics subject more, explained just how much of an impact the awards have on the learners.

Matemane also runs early morning extra classes at the school to help the learners excel in their subjects, he said, “Ever since we have had the awards, more learners attend the morning classes; they are motivated and inspired by the ones who have won.”

One learner who was over the moon about her Gold Award was Keamogetswe Tsheoga who admitted that she didn’t anticipate getting gold.


Pulane Mawela, Keamogetswe Tsheoga, Masechaba Maroma, Amogelang Sithole, Catherine Ngubeni, Lethabo Mamokgere, and Maths Matemanae.

Masechaba Maroma got a silver award, she said that she is happy, however, she said that she realizes that if she starts working harder she is bound to get a gold award as well as a sign of her academic excellence. She said, “I worked harder than last year this year because I got a bronze last year. To me, this means that I have to improve and get gold.”

In closing, Matemane said, “These awards empower the learner’s minds and make them passionate about their education, especially the ones who do not get any awards, they get inspired and pushed to work harder.”

Matemane concluded that for the learners who get to see the other learners win, the experience changes their morale and behaviour towards education.
