Lace up and conquer the People’s Race

Over 40 000 running enthusiasts to take on the Soweto Marathon this Sunday.

It’s all systems go for the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon scheduled to take place this Sunday. Known as The People’s Race, the marathon is on its 26th edition this year and has attracted a record 40 000 runners.

 

Athletes from across Mzansi and other countries will make their way to the starting line at the FNB Stadium on Sunday morning to take on one of the biggest road races of the year.

 

The Soweto Marathon Expo was open on Thursday morning as a prelude to the race with runners already streaming in to collect their race packs.

 

Old Mutual’s Thobile Tshabalala said everything is in order and all the logistics are in place for the big day on Sunday.

 

“FNB is already buzzing wth people coming in to collect their race packs. The Soweto Marathon Expo is aimed at showcasing to the public everything about running and fitness. I would like to encourage people to come spend time at the expo learning about all things running and our new rewards programme,” said Tshabalala.

About 40 000 runners will take over the Soweto Marathon this weekend.

The People’s Race is renowned for its scenic Soweto route exploring a variety of heritage sites.

 

Some of the notable sites that runners can lookout for include the Orlando Towers, Walter Sisulu Square and Vilakazi Street to mention just a few.

 

The Soweto Marathon experience is not limited to heritage sites but runners will also experience the warm hospitality that Sowetans are known for.

 

To make sure that this big sporting event is accessible to everyone, Old Mutual as the main sponsor is again bringing the Runners’ Village to cater for underprivileged runners who can’t afford accommodation and meals on the eve of the marathon.

 

This year over 400 runners will be accommodated at the Runners’ Village which will be set up at the Orlando West High School.
