Boulders placed in the road result in a tragic accident involving a blue BMW in Eldorado Park

The Eldorado Park Neighbourhood Watch pleads with residents to alert others about potential dangers.

A tragic accident involving a blue BMW took place on Union Road in Eldorado Park leaving the driver hospitalised and community in shock.

Community activist and member of the Eldorado Park Local Drug Active Committee (LDAC) task team, Moenira Daniels, confirmed that the accident was caused because of boulders that we placed in the road.

“The accident happened around 9 p.m. at the bend between extensions Two and Four,” said Daniels.

“When members of the Eldorado Park Neighbourhood Watch (EPNW) arrived on the scene we could see the huge rocks in the road. This is nothing new, Union Road has been a concern for some time now. There are open velds on either side of the road, there are no street lights and these boulders are being placed after the bend so motorists are caught off guard,” said Daniels.

The community activist said that the LDAC Task Team is currently working on a way forward to ensure the safety of motorists.

“We need residents to understand that Union Road, especially at the bend is now considered a high-risk area. We will also meet with the Ward Councillor to discuss a way forward,” said Daniels.

“This problem seems to be spreading. On Monday evening at 11 o’clock, October 21, members from the Neighbourhood Watch came across rocks that were placed in Boundary Road, Extension Nine. We noticed men sitting under the trees,” she added.

The Eldorado Park Neighbourhood Watch pleads with residents to alert others about potential dangers.

“We have an Eldorado Park Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page, we encourage residents to join the group to look out for alerts or updates. Residents also have the opportunity to report incidents to alert other residents,” said Daniels.

Residents are urged to be alert at all times, especially in the evening and are encouraged to use alternative routes until the high rise lights are installed completely.
