Eldorado Park Eco Scouts serious about saving the planet

The Eco Scout programme aims to educate the youth on biodiversity and how to keep their community clean.

Devoted to climate change and environmental awareness – the Environmentorz, Eldorado Park’s very own environmental organisation recently hosted its annual week-long Eco Scout holiday programme.

Held at the Eldorado Park Stadium, the Eco Scout programme aims to educate the youth on biodiversity and how to keep their community clean.

The programme is set in place to keep youngsters off the street and away from trouble during the school holidays.

Marketing manager Kaylene Jegels said that the programme is all about having fun and learning at the same time.

“We try not to make it feel like school, so most of the time we are outside, exploring the environment,” said Jegels.

“This time youngsters were taught about water conservation and they were given tips on how to start and maintain their vegetable gardens. We target the youth because they are the future.

The idea is to equip them so that they can teach their friends and even family members,” she added.

Over the years, the Eco Scout programme has focused on a variety of environmental topics including the-all-important waste management.

Jegels said that the holiday programme would not have been possible with the support of local businesses.

“We would like to say thank you to the following stakeholders for their support in sponsoring us with the feeding of the children during this period; Igsaans, Park bakery, Riaaz Butchery, Escort Ridgeway, Mac fries, Geetos Sweets, Hyper save supermarket and Coca-cola.

“We look forward to the next Eco Scout holiday programme,” Jegels concluded.
