Councillor Nonhlanhla Makhuba visited the Thokoza Park and Lake View Rea Vaya Station to address commuter complaints

The main objective of this year's Transport Month will highlight the City's plans which are geared towards building an effective, safe, affordable, accessible and reliable transport system and to further advance road safety initiatives while creating awareness of the economic benefits of the sector.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport, Councillor Nonhlanhla Makhuba launched the 2019 October transport month through a series of face to face engagement sessions with Rea Vaya commuters at various station to address complaints and suggests to provide safer, reliable and efficient transport services.

Makhuba visited the Thokoza Park and Lake View Rea Vaya Station to address complaints and suggest an effort toprovide safer, reliable and efficient transport services. Under the theme ‘#Be Eco-mobile to move around Jozi’.

“Our focus for the 2019 Transport Month is on safety and low carbon emission. There are various benefits which include reduced traffic congestion, air pollution, associated health benefits and improved energy security through reduced energy costs,” said Makhuba.

The main objective of this year’s Transport Month will highlight the City’s plans which are geared towards building an effective, safe, affordable, accessible and reliable transport system and to further advance road safety initiatives while creating awareness of the economic benefits of the sector.

This year will also see a partnership with Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) in hosting a transport symposium that will galvanize both internal and external stakeholders to unpack the environmental impact of the transport sector and identity opportunities and interventions that will contribute to the reduction of emissions.

“As we all eagerly await for the Phase 1C Rea Vaya route to be operational, I feel it is important for residents to understand that as this administration, we want to do things right – and to get things right, processes may take longer than anticipated.

“I can assure you that we are working tirelessly to bring you a transport service that is accessible, affordable, reliable and safe. The wait will soon come to an end.” added MMC Makhuba
