McBain Charles Primary turns 60

Appointed as principal in 2007, Graham Mansingh remains committed to positively impacting the lives of learners, staff and parents at the school.

One of Eldorado Park oldest schools, McBain Charles Primary, celebrated its 60th birthday on Thursday, September 19. Situated in Extension Nine, the school, which was founded in 1959, boasts a proud history almost as rich as Kliptown – the Freedom Charter Township.

Appointed as principal in 2007, Graham Mansingh remains committed to positively impacting the lives of learners, staff and parents at the school.

“I feel as though I was sent here when the school needed me the most. It’s been tough but overall an awesome experience. When I started here the learner role was just above 400, within these past few years the school has grown to almost 900 learners. This would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm from staff members and the School Governing Body. I have an amazing team,” said Mansingh.

“We have big plans for the school, one of them being to set up a remediation and enrichment centre on the premises. Our goal is to make this possible with the help of an international franchise- Kip McGrath,” he added.

With Birthday celebrations starting at 9:30, the learners showed their appreciation for the school through dance. Bishop Dr. Samuel Lloyd, who is an ex-student of the school, was present at the celebration.

When addressing the learners he encouraged them to remain focused on their academics. “When I think of my primary school days, I think of my multiplication. It’s important to master the basics because that lays a foundation for your future,” said Lloyd.

After listening to speeches the learners and educators proceeded to their classrooms where they enjoyed individual class parties.

“I am so proud of my learners. They have raised funds since the second term to make sure their class parties was a success. I would like to thank all the educators, SGB members, staff members and most importantly the learners at the school for making the Birthday celebrations a success, ” Mansingh concluded.
