Elderly women celebrated in Meadowlands Zone 1

#basadikaditukulekhiba was the theme for the day.

Lebogang Moemise from Bokamoso production and projects had an event which aimed at celebrating elderly women in Meadowlands.

The event was held at Sliverpipe were grandmothers came in numbers dressed in their different traditional attires #basadikaditukulekhiba was the theme for the day.

Moemise said we felt that our elders are not properly celebrated as people were enjoying their month but forgetting our elders that are also playing a significant role in our lives.

“Our grandmother’s have been left out as everyone was concentrating on celebrating upcoming mothers forgetting our grandmothers who raised us.

“Coming with this theme basadi ka dituku and khiba it was to honour them for playing parenting role in our lives and all the teachings they gave us back then, so this is to appreciate their presences in our lives and always stirring us in the right direction of life,” said Moemise.

Moemise emphasised that we should always remember that it takes a village to raise a child as we all know that back then our grannies and mothers used to wear their traditional clothes and covered their heads and would play a role of being a mother in our households and the teachings that they have taught us as children during our upbringing.

Different speakers shared few words with our elders and to make it more fun and exciting for the grannies there was a raffle where some grannies won blankets, gifts, spa treatments, hair makeover just to spend a day relaxing and being pampered.

Moemise said she wanted this concept to be different and unique because our grandmothers are doing their best in taking care of us and we should also look after them while they are still alive.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to Skyline that when we approached them and asked for assistance they opened their arms and helped us to make this event a successful one and also our businesses from Meadowlands who have contributed we are grateful for your contributions towards this event,” concluded Moemise.
