WATCH: Eldorado Park community rallies together in hopes to create awareness, and bring Lindiwe home.

17-year-old Lindiwe Matthews is still missing.

A candlelight vigil and picket line was held on the corner of Witterberg and Witmosberg in Eldorado Park Extension Two last night.

The vigil was organized by residents in hopes to create awareness about 17-year-old Lindiwe Mathews who is still missing.

Pastors, Community leaders, members of the Local Drug Action Committee, The Eldorado Park neighbourhood watch and the Eldorado Park Community Police Forum were present at the vigil.

Learners from Silver Oaks Secondary came dressed in full uniform to show support for the family.

Silver Oaks Principle Lanley Le Roux addressed the community and said that the 17-year-olds disappearance has not been easy for the school.

“Lindiwe is currently in Matric and is supposed to be sitting with her peers, writing her preliminary exams but her seat is empty,” said Le Roux.

Community leader and anti-drug activist, Dereleen James also addressed residents. “Today should be a turning point.



“We need to change the atmosphere in our homes and we need to take ownership of one another’s children. Our children should not be in the street, it is evident that our streets aren’t safe,” said James.

Councillor Margaret Arnolds urged residents to avail themselves every time teams go out to search for missing persons. “It makes our job so much easier when we have the support of the entire community,” said Arnolds.

Residents with any information on Lindiwe’s disappearance are urged to come forward.
