A family in Chiawelo need help to rebuilt their burnt shack

Yvonne Nkunasaid that she was sleeping in another shack when the fire broke.

A family of Yvonne Nkuna is in desperate need of help after their shack got burnt on August 19.

Although arson may be suspected or a faulty electrical connection, no leads or arrests are imminent this far.

According to Nkuna who lives in the shack with her two children aged 12 and 15 respectively, the cause of the fire is unknown.

She said they have lost everything which they had and the damage will cost a lot as roofing, furniture and clothing are destroyed. Nkuna said they need the much-needed help to bring the shack into its original state.

“Everything in our home is damaged and I only have a blanket and a mattress which I kept them safe in another room to sleep on while my children have nothing including school uniform,” said Nkuna.

She said she was sleeping in another shack when the fire broke and was woken up by her 12-year-old as he was coughing.

“When I went to check, there was smoke everywhere and I broke the door to try and save my children from the fire.

“I tried to stop the fire which was all over and I could not as I was also fearing for my life and had to crush out of the shack as the fire was unbearably hot.

The shack is situated at Midway near Chiawelo Extension Five. So far the family does not have anything and they are asking for help and anyone willing to give their support they can contact Nkuna on 064 677 6746.
