Grade 1 and 8’s admissions date announced!

The Gauteng Department of Education has officially released dates for 2020 online admissions.

The Gauteng Department of Education has officially released dates for 2020 online admissions. The revised date to begin with the placing of Grade 1 and Grade 8’s has been decided to be September 18, 2019.

The initial date for commencement had previously been scheduled for the 30th of August 2019. According to a press release from the department, the decision to revise the date is to give the department and schools enough time to verify all the schools’ Waiting Lists. This is to ensure that no learner is left out or undeserved.

As such, schools and officials are still in an on-going verification process of Schools Waiting List. However, parents who submitted all required documents are advised to expect communication from the department via SMS for offers of placement from September 18 to October 31, 2019.

Parents are advised to note that the WA1 – WA4 numbers given out during the application process will NOT be used as the basis to determine placement. Offers for placement will NOT be issued on the same day. Parents are advised to stay calm and patient during this process. The offer for placement must be accepted within school seven days (Holidays not included.) This effectively means that the first set of parents to receive offers MUST accept the offer by October 6, 2019, for example.

Parents have the option to accept the offer either online at https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/ or by going to their District and Head office. Alternatively, parents may simply visit the nearest school during school days.

For parents who have missed the deadline for submissions but still wish to enrol their children for the academic year 2020, there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. Gauteng Education Spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed to Soweto Urban News that the department may offer solutions for these parents, but he warned that this would only be possible around November.
