“We then moved to the Faith Temple Church where residents raised their concerns and issues with General Bheki Cele,” she added. Khobo confirmed that most of the issues raised were crime and drug related.

Residents came out in numbers in hopes that their cries for a safer, cleaner and drug free community will be heard. Jennifer Lombard, one of the residents who attended said that she is tired of living in constant fear.

“We cannot walk our streets without the fear of getting mugged, it’s no way to live,” said Lombard.

Cele listened to everyone’s concerns and made commitments, saying that a safer Eldorado Park is possible. The Police Minister also highlighted the looting that has taken place in Soweto over the last few weeks.

“Any criminal act worries the police and the government, there is no doubt about that. Our main focus now, as the police, is to be on the ground and work with the residents so that people to people issues can be dealt with,” Cele concluded.
