Empowher – Women in Creative & Broadcasting Industry High Tea

The high tea is centered on empowering the next generation of industry leaders, professionals and creators.

The SACIA Youth Engagement Office together with its Student Council and Young Professional’s Forum will be hosting an intergenerational and youth-oriented high-tea.

The high-tea will be an outdoor affair at the scenic Blandford Manor in Johannesburg. The high tea is centered on empowering the next generation of industry leaders, professionals and creators.

This networking and empowering session will bring together young and aspiring women closer to women that are industry leaders across the technical communication sector. Additionally the session will attract other women concerned with the success of the industry (government, business, and media).


Shoki Mmola.

The speakers will explore a myriad of issues women are confronted with across the industry starting with the challenging dynamics pertaining to access for women storytellers in broadcast platforms such as the SACB, Etv and Dstv.

The corpus of this address will diagnose the problematic bureaucracy which often reduce women to second-class citizen and role players in the industry. This will also highlight a number of success stories such as in the case of Connect TV.

Other speakers will share experiences on the role played by women in the industry and other networks. Natalie Delport from SACIA will share the 10 year journey of the association, her role as a female association leader and the first to be elected board chair, we will also explore the role of women in advancing transformation in the Broadcast industry and the success stories of successful industry women.


Mathawe Matsapola.

On the sidelines of the formal programme, the session will offer a fitness masterclass encompassing a stress relief session, this to enable women to better cope with the inevitable work stress.

The masterclass will also offer lifestyle, health, fitness and dietary tips. Itumeleng will give a make-up masterclass and offer free make up tips. Finally, speakers will share challenges faced by female artists in the Film and TV environment, explore this at the backdrop of the South African creative industry and the #MeToo Movement.

Additionally the high tea will also The Speed-Date Mentorship Network. The Speed-Date Mentorship Network will allow established industry women to spend 30 minutes with 3 different young women and choose 1 to mentor (Either on a formal or informal arrangement).
