Two shootings in Ward 82

The shootings took place in the community of Claremont and Kathrada Park.

Captain Jerbes de Bruyn, the communications officer for the Sophiatown Police Station released a report on two shootings which took place in the community of Claremont and Kathrada Park last week. In the first report, de Bruyn stated that the incident took place on Wednesday morning (August 14) at about 1am.

“Two people were shot in Claremont by three unknown men. According to one of the victims, they were approached by the suspects who asked them for a shop and then opened fire on them hitting a 38-year-old female in her ankle and hitting a 40-year-old male in the upper body,” explained de Bruyn.

The captain added that both victims were treated on the scene and taken to hospital. The second shooting took place on the same day at about 2.58am a short distance from the earlier shooting, another man was shot five times in Kathrada Park. According to de Bruyn, the victim was stabilised on the scene and taken to hospital.

“The police are investigating both cases to establish if the two cases can be linked to each other. Two cases of attempted murder have been opened,” concluded de Bruyn.

Police are appealing to members of the public to report all criminal activities. Any information may anonymously be reported to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours. Information on serious and violent crimes may also be rewarded.
