Help A Girl Foundation, Bafokeng join forces to support young girls

The started and ended at Bafokeng Corner in Phiri with several residents joining in with different age groups.

Help a Girl Foundation in association with Bafokeng Cares successfully hosted their first Annual 5km Fun Walk in the aid of helping school girls with sanitary towels. The fun walk happened on August 9 as part of celebrating Women’s Day in the process.

The started and ended at Bafokeng Corner in Phiri with several residents joining in with different age groups. All proceeds went into buying sanitary towels for school girls in Soweto. Participants donated sanitary pads and registration was R20.

“We had competitions for the best dressed king, queen, prince and princesses to add some extra fun to the day,” said Thabo Cooper of Help a Child Foundation.

“Through the event we were celebrating and inspiring women as individuals, wives, mothers and businesswomen to come together, share, work together and succeed together in helping girls to stay in school,” said Cooper.

“We have educated girls from Soweto about adolescence and menstruation as well as helping them formulate their goals through creative and engaging methods such as guiding them through creating their vision boards, interactive sessions, informative discussions and our mentorship program,” said Cooper.

He said the community’s support is important to their work at Help A Girl Foundation. Foundation ambassador, Victor Letsholo, better known as DJ Crooks is among residents willing to help the community and said there are many ways people can contribute towards the campaign and every little bit that they commit goes a long way in helping to fulfil their vision for vulnerable and disadvantaged young girls in South Africa.

Cooper said they are always looking for ways to partner with organisations to help the community.
