Girls’ march to raise awareness against women and children abuse

The march started in Naledi high school and preceded to Zola clinic where they discussed issues of sexual violence.

With efforts to put an end to the on-going violence against woman and children, Naledi SAPS social crime prevention together with Johannesburg child welfare (JCW), Youth desk, Naledi high school and Zola clinic took to the streets to march and raise awareness about women and children abuse in Emdeni yesterday.

The women united to confront issues that challenge them daily starting with a march holding different placards, one reads “#NoToViolence, strong hands stop violence against woman and girls’’.

The march started in Naledi high school and preceded to Zola clinic where they discussed issues of sexual violence.

JCW social worker’s Khumbuzile Mweli informed the children that when it comes to the abuse they come first and they should always prioritize themselves. … also emphasized that sex should be consensual if one does not agree then it should not happen.

The student social worker Precious Sibiya also shared the same sentiments, she went on to emphasise that abuse should be reported regardless of when it happens and who the perpetrator is.

Constable Dakalo Phemula said police will continue to fight against gender-based violence and the police station is open for anyone who wants to report such cases, through their victim empowerment centre we ensure to those who fall victims of violence.

“This joint effort between the police and the clinic will see a reduction on cases of violence against women and children, we continue to make a call to the community to come together and join forces with the police,” said Phemula.
