Thaba Jabula Grade 12s dress to impress

For the past 20 years, the school has not been having a matric dance.

Matric Farewells have evolved from just fancy suits and dresses and flimsy cameras to outlandishly lavish parties, however, during these events, learners from wealthy families often celebrate the event extravagantly, some even go to the extent of hiring fancy cars to transport them to the venue, but to learners who are underprivileged, this day creates headaches, that is when oraganisations such as Nhlanhla Tshabalala Foundation come in.

It was all about face beats, eyebrows fleeking, hair on point, slits, glitter, class, black tie, it was really hard to choose your favourite for the night at the Thaba Jabula’s matric dance that was held at their school in Klipspruit on Friday, August 2.

For the past 20 years, the school has not been having a matric dance and this year, they decided to make it happen and the learners really went all out to look their best. The event was made possible by Nhlanhla Tshabalala Foundation, which made it possible for some of the learners to have beautiful outfits for this special night, as well as awards to honour those who worked hard.

Nhlanhla Tshabalala, the founder of Nhlanhla Tsabalala Foundation explained that this event was one of their ‘Suit Me Up 4 My Matric Dance’ campaign, which is their special well way of recognising grade 12s for getting this far with academics.

“With the assistance from the teachers and the SGB committee we were able to identify learners who needed assistance in terms of outfits, we also visited schools. We are hoping to reach as many schools as possible and be the change to them,” Tshabalala said.
