Residents residing in Alberta Street, Kremetart Street and Karee Avenue in Extension Three have had to deal with a terrible stench and a flood of water collecting litter due to a blocked sewage drain on Alberta Street.

Residents are annoyed and frustrated because not only has water infested with litter gathered in front of their homes but they fear that faeces are starting to protrude from the leaking drain.

“Our streets are a mess and it is unhealthy and unacceptable,” said Snaatjies.

“The drains in Alberta Street have been acting up for weeks now. First, it was the drain at the Shaheems and now it is the drain at the church,” said another resident.

Ward councillor Fazel Jaffer said that the turnaround time for reporting a sewer blockage is 24 hours.
“I have escalated the matter to the Joburg Water depot manager,” said Jaffer.

“I also want to encourage residents to take the initiative and report cases like this as soon as they occur, instead of waiting and leaving it to get worse. The first thing residents have to do in any service delivery issue is to report directly to the entities and keep reference numbers,” he added.
