Locals at Naledi and Emndeni willing to pay Eskom

The two communities joined forces and drafted a letter that pleads to the energy utility company to give them a flatter rate because most members of the community can’t afford prepaid electricity.

Residents of Naledi and Emdeni came together and set a plan in motion and plead to Eskom for flat rates and in return encourage their community to pay their electrical bill because they understand how pivotal the energy company’s role is to the community, and the country as a whole.

The two communities joined forces and drafted a letter that pleads to the energy utility company to give them a flatter rate because most members of the community can’t afford prepaid electricity, yet are willing to come up with a solution that will enable them to keep paying for electricity, as opposed to making excuses that could later haunt them as a community.

Due to their efforts, they have enlisted the help of the Public Protector who will be having a meeting with Eskom’s delegates on the 29th of July.

They’ve also decided not to seek help from their ward councillor because they believe his loyalties lie with pleasing the municipality instead of dealing with issues that affect the people within the community.

“Let’s call a technician to inspect the sub-station, in that way, they can identify cables that are illegally connected and those that need repairing, and after that, those who have attended today’s meeting can start paying their utility bill.

“Whoever can afford to pay their electricity will pay. The statistics will show in our books but first, we need to deal with illegal connections”, said Fani Ngcobo who helped lead the meeting.

The two communities want to start as soon as possible paying for electricity because they were informed by Eskom that even as little as R50 could go a long way if every household contributed.

They will be informing the rest of the community in detail during their next meeting that is yet to be scheduled.
