#WeRead: The official launch of ‘The Man Baby’ will be on August 31

Dainon’s parents, Wesley and Michelle Van Wyk, said that they are in awe of their son and that they are extremely proud of his achievements thus far.

‘My dreams are coming true’ – these are the words of eight-year-old Eldorado Park author Dainon Van Wyk who is preparing for the official launch of his first book titled The Man Baby.

The launch which will be taking place at Eldocrest Primary School on August 31 with tickets selling at R120. Doors open at 1 pm.

Sonia Elie, who is commonly known in the Eldorado Park community as Die Boek Feetjie, has assisted Dainon in ensuring that his book is ready for selling.

“Like his mentor, the most important thing I did for him was to encourage him to believe in himself,” said Elie.

“When he told me that he wanted to finish his book, have it printed and get it ready for selling – I told him that the only thing standing in his way was himself. I am so proud to be a part of his journey. At only eight-years-old he is committed and has a vision for what he wants his life to be like,” she added.

Dainon’s parents, Wesley and Michelle Van Wyk, said that they are in awe of their son and that they are extremely proud of his achievements thus far. “Like his mentor and parents, we will continue to support him and nurture his talent,” said Elie.

With the launch only four weeks away, the family is using a private printer to print the books.
“It’s expensive as all funding is coming from our pockets. We need sponsors to assist us in helping Dainon’s dream come true,” said Elie.

“I have also been approached by a 15-year-old girl who writes short stories, so sponsors are needed for her as well. It truly is an exciting time for the children of Eldorado Park, there is so much positivity in the air,” she added.
Die Boek Feetjie is committed to producing greatness from the community through reading.

“I believe that reading is the catalyst for positive change. I will continue to motivate children to read because it is the foundation for learning,” said Elie.

“Children do read, but not enough. They would rather play games on an electronic device and that is not beneficial to learning. Reading helps with developing the imagination, improves vocabulary and comprehension. Reading awakes writing,” she concluded.
