WATA Deputy Chairperson gunned down at Elias Motsoaledi Road

LISTEN: Moroka Police Spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza.

A Deputy Chairperson of Witwatersrand Taxi Association (WATA) was shot dead at Elias Motsoaledi Road yesterday.

Captain Khoza said, “Yesterday at about 14:00 pm, a man who is the chairperson of WATA (Witwatersrand Taxi Association) was shot dead by unknown people.”

He explained that the deputy chairperson died on the spot and the people fled on the vehicle they were driving.

The motive for the killing is unknown.

“The police appeal to the community of Jabavu to assist with any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects and we also appeal to WATA members.”

Khoza concluded that a case of murder has been opened and no one has been arrested so far.

“People should not speculate about who is behind the killing but rather give police space and time to investigate this murder.”
