Orlando Stadium to be renamed after Winnie Madikizela Mandela?
It has been reported that Orlando Stadium is to be renamed after Winnie Madikizela Mandela. An article by The Citizen reports that the spokesperson for the speaker of Council, Vasco Da Gama Lillian Kolisang confirmed that a motion to rename Orlando Stadium to Winnie Madikizela Mandela Stadium was put to Council by the EFF.
Furthermore The Citizen states that some sections of Orlando residents are opposed to the idea of renaming the stadium after Madikizela-Mandela and prefer it to be named after Soweto’s ‘founding father’, James Sofasonke Mpanza.

Soweto Urban reporter Andile Maxopani went to the streets of Orlando to gather views concerning the renaming of the stadium.
Some residents are happy with the idea because of the role played by Winnie Madikizela Mandela during the apartheid era, while some feel that there are people who played a much bigger role than the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela.
