Communications officer Captain Jerbes de Bruyn from Sophiatown police shared the following in his police report.
“According to the witness she was busy cleaning her yard when she saw a dog that was carrying a white plastic bag in his mouth.”
“She then chased the dog away and opened the plastic bag and discovered a new born baby inside.”
“Unfortunately the baby was already deceased. She immediately called the police.”
“A 19 year old woman has been arrested in connection with the case. A case of concealment of birth has been opened.”

A foetus was found dumped in a dustbin near Kathrada Park in Newclare, west of Johannesburg.
Paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found members of the SAPS already in attendance.
Upon assessment, a foetus was found in a bag in a nearby dustbin. There was nothing that paramedics could do, and a declaration of death was issued.
The SAPS is investigating the incident.
