Male suspect arrested in the open veld behind Eldorado Park Secondary School for alleged robbery with a firearm

Community warned to refrain from walking through open velds.

A 27 year old male suspect was arrested on Tuesday, July 2, for robbery with a firearm. According to Constable Fezeka Khobo, the suspect was arrested in the open veld behind Eldorado Park Secondary School just before mid day.

“It is alleged that the complainant was on his way from Shoprite walking through the above open veld when approached by two unknown males, one carrying a firearm,” said Khobo.

“The one suspect pointed him with the firearm whilst the other suspect searched the complainant. They took the complainant’s belongings and an undisclosed amount of money,” she added.

Khobo also said that he complainant ran after the suspects in hopes to get back what belonged to him.

“The complainant received help from the community and eventually one of the suspects were caught. Eldorado Park SAPS arrived on the scene, and the suspect was arrested. He is being detained at Eldorado Park SAPS cells for further investigation and will appear in court soon,” said Khobo.

The Eldorado Park police station urges the community to refrain from walking through open velds.

“These oepn spaces are not safe, no one should walk through them, especially not alone. The streets are quiet during Winter so you become an automatic target” said Khobo.

“The community of Eldorado Park is commended for helping to fight crime. “Let us continue to unite in working together. It is up to all of us to ensure a safe environment for our children to grow in,” Khobo concluded.
