According to the founder, Phila ‘Mshini’ Nxumalo; Backyard Productions is a Soweto-based, comprehensive performing artists company, that was born after a young man who had an idea to invite a few of his own friends whom he knew are artists to come and celebrate his birthday party at his home, by sharing and showcasing their talents as part of their entertainment.

The young man’s idea grew into an initiative called ‘Backyard Sessions’, which has had major progress over the years as a performing artists company. As a result of this success of what was once was an idea has been formalized and conceptualized into a profitable business—Backyard Productions.

The session will feature local bands showcasing their live performances, artists of many if not all genres, open-mic sessions, a photo booth, food stalls ranging from ama Kota, boerewors rolls, pap and chakalaka, and so much more of that Kasi food to enjoy. Entrance will be R40 at the gate and pre-sold tickets go for R30.

“This year’s Backyard Session will indeed be an extra special one as it will be celebrating its 5th session since its inception in 2015, and to the founders; this represents a lot of growth for the company.” Demanded Motlatsi Ngcephe, of the Wordspread Media.
