General Khehla John Sitole condemned the killing of a young police officer in Nancefield

Three suspects apprehended for the murder Moroka Police officer.

South African Police Service (SAPS) National Commissioner, General Khehla John Sitole condemned the killing of a young police officer in Nancefield on Thursday, June 20, during a shootout with alleged car thieves.

This follows reports that stated that the 28-year-old Constable Nhlamo Vuyeka was shot and killed at Nancefield Hostel.

It is alleged that the deceased was part of Moroka Crime Prevention members on patrol at the hostel when they stopped a suspicious vehicle and when the police approached the vehicle for a search, the occupants in the vehicle started shooting at them but the police managed to contain the situation and apprehended the three alleged killers.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that Vukeya sustained a gunshot wound just below his bullet-resistant vest on his abdomen, he was immediately rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, at the time of his passing, he had been serving the police for just over four years.

The police immediately arrested the three suspects from the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Ectonville last month, a 9 mm pistol was recovered from the vehicle.

Sitole welcomed the arrest of the three alleged killers and condemned the killing of police officers.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the family of this member that paid with his life for the safety of our communities,” Sithole said.

“Constable Vukeya was a hero and I am happy that his alleged killer will face the full might of the law,” he added.

Vukeya’s death Prompted police Minister General Bheki Cele to visit the deceased’s family and promised to attend the funeral at Jerome village in Malamulele, Limpopo. His memorial service was held at Protea South Community Hall on Tuesday, June 25.
