Fuel Road going all the way down to Commando Road smoothed out

A smooth street for Fuel Road.

Ward councillor Genevieve Sherman shared her good news on her win after three years of battling with Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA).

Fuel Road going all the way down to Commando Road has been in an unpleasing state over the few years, with many damaged cars, complaints from residents, the councillor has finally pleased the residents as the road on Fuel has been smoothed out.

Rutting is a long deep track made by the repeated passage of the wheels of vehicles. In May last year, we conducted an interview with the councillor Sherman and she stated that the City would be sending out engineers to investigate the matter because the issue has been a reoccurring one.

After a year, Sherman explains: “It has been a plague since the Rea Vaya buses started in our community.

The way JRA explained it to me was that the buses are very heavy and their weight squeezes the tar to the sides – especially in extremely hot weather when the tar softens, and then as soon as it gets cold the tar hardens. I have been battling with this problem for almost three years now and it has been an endless fight with JRA. Finally, for me, this is a great victory.”

“I also use this road a lot and even damaged my car once or twice, so this is a great achievement on my side.

“I hope that residents from Coronationville will now have a better experience travelling on this smooth road. Thank you to everyone who hounded me or put some pressure on me and all this resulted in me finally winning the fight for a smooth road.”
