Captain Seageng awarded for his successful investigation which resulted in the sentencing of Mkhululi Chonco.

Judge Mngqibisa-Thusi sentenced Chonco to 331 years imprisonment.

District commissioner General Masha awarded Captain Seageng for this successful investigation which resulted in the sentencing of Mkhululi Chonco. Chonco appeared in the High Court about three weeks ago where Judge Mngqibisa-Thusi sentenced him to 331 years imprisonment.

Captain Jerbes de Bruyn who is the communications officer from Sophiatown police station added that Chonco was convicted for 130 counts which included 4 counts of murder, 11 counts of attempted murder, 2 counts of rape, 32 counts of house breaking in with the intend to commit robbery, 35 counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances, 1 count of theft, 1 count of malicious damage to property, 1 count of trespassing, 1 count of possession of suspected stolen property, 24 counts of possession of an illegal fire arm, 18 counts of possession of illegal ammunition.

“When it all started, he was 24 years of age and now he is 30 years old. He was convicted in January 25, this year but has only been sentenced two weeks ago,” explained de Bruyn at the time of the interview.

According to de Bruyn, judge Mngqibisa-Thusi gave Chonco 3 life imprisonments then he has all the other chargers that have about 10 to 15 years imprisonment so in total he is sentenced for 331 years imprisonment.
