#Revisit1976SowetoUprising – From Bantu Education to The Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS)
LISTEN: Different views from Sowetans about Bantu Education and CAPS.
The Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement also known as CAPS is the new system of education, a single comprehensive and incisive policy introduced by the Department of Basic Education for all students listed in the National Curriculum Statement (NCS).
Bantu education is the old system of education which was enacted in 1953 and was in effect from 1954 as it governed the education of Black South Africans. It was part of the government’s system of apartheid which authorised racial segregation and discrimination against blacks in our country.
South Africans are less educated than foreigners because of Bantu education, we are less skilled in business because of lack of opportunities and apartheid laws. Opening our borders will economically kill already suffering South Africans.

“We have enough access to the internet as it makes it easier for us to do our research for assignments unlike Bantu education learners,” said one of the CAPS learners, Zandi Yika.
The main aim of CAPS is to lessen the administrative burden of teachers and to ensure consistency and guidance for teaching.
According to Educanda, the training and learning of the subjects aim skills, the focus of content areas and weighing of content areas https:www.educanda.co.za.caps aligned.

The Bantu education system was aimed to keep black and white people apart in all aspects of social life and to control the movement and economic activity of blacks hence it was introduced in the apartheid era.
Bantu education caused an effect to black people, according to overcoming apartheid, most the 1953 education ACT was one of apartheid’s most offensively racist laws as it brought African education under control of the government and extended apartheid to black schools. Most mission schools chose to close rather than to promote apartheid in educationovercomingapartheid.msu.edu>sidebar.

The introduction of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction is the actual cause of the 1976 Soweto uprising, but there are also various factors behind the 1976 student unrest.
Classes were overcrowded therefore it made it a huge inconvenience for learners.
CAPS is convenient for nowadays learners and to the educator as it provides a detailed week by week schedule for educators to follow, it is also aimed to make a luminous future for children, meanwhile, Bantu education never put a black child’s aspirations into consideration as they have the same aspirations as children of other racial groups.
CAPS learners use their home languages as a medium of instruction and English as it a well-known language countrywide.
