Mofolo South residents to continue with the protest till the electricity issue is fixed

Three people were elected in the public meeting to go to Eskom and voice out their concern.

Following the protest at Mofolo South yesterday which was sparked by electricity outage. Residents met to discuss a way forward relating to the electricity issue.

Leader Tebogo Phillips said they have been protesting since Friday afternoon and yesterday they started to protest between 6 to 7 am. “We targeted the road since in the morning because it has been two weeks now without the electricity.

“We are demanding the electricity because it’s cold now and we have elderly people who are sick, newborn babies, and our children are writing their exams now.”

One of the resident in the public meeting said, “I think that closing the roads is pointless because we have a clinic and schools. My advice is that we should go to Eskom and tell them about our challenge with electricity.”

Another resident Mpho Khumalo said, “We want Eskom to come and fix the electricity for us because it’s winter now and we will not stop to protest unless they fix the electricity for us.”

One of the grannies Caroline Mahlobo said the electricity has affected her health bad because she is very sick and the electricity needs to be back as soon as possible.

“I’m very sick and I can’t drink my medication because I put it on the fridge and it has expired now.”

Residents from Mofolo South barricaded the Ellias Motsoaledi Road next to the Regina Mondi church in the morning due to an electricity outage they experienced in the area.

According to the Moroka Police spokesperson, Captain Mpande Khoza the residents complained about not having electricity.

“We do not know the cause of that, only Eskom can identify the problem.

“We as the police are are monitoring the area and we will make sure that people’s property are safe.”

According to Mpande no arrests have been made yet.

The community is currently having a meeting to discuss the way forward.
