Manchester United has a tough task ahead of trying to rebuild the squad following a very disappointing 2018/19 season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spell as caretaker manager at Man United evidenced nothing but success and also setting a record to seal his name in the club’s history.

After former manager Jose Mourinho got sacked, with Michael Carrick placed in temporary charge, United had initially planned to appoint a caretaker who would lead the team until a permanent coach was appointed at the end of the season.

When Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford, things changed and the players’ confidence was evident on the pitch. They had their groove back.

But let’s quickly reflect on Solskjaer’s progress from his successful stint as the caretaker boss from December 19 to March 27:

• Solskjaer’s record in all competitions – (Played: 19 Won: 14 Drawn: 2 Lost: 3 Goals for: 40 Goals against: 17)

• PL record – Man United picked up 32 Premier League points since taking charge – more than any other top-flight side.

• He set a new club record after winning nine successive away games for the first time in the club’s history.

• Ole equalled the Premier League record by winning his first six matches in charge, matching Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

• He is the first Man United manager to win his first eight games in charge. Sir Matt Busby, second on the list, won his first five.

• He is unbeaten in his six Premier League home games in charge. The Reds have beaten Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton, and drawn against Burnley and Liverpool.

• It’s the first time in 34 years that United have won away at Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea in the same season.

• Ole has given debuts to three academy players so far – Tahith Chong, James Garner and Mason Greenwood.

According to Express, “Solskjaer oversaw an improvement winning 14 of his first 17 games as caretaker boss before then managing just two victories from his last 12 games, the final 10 of which were as permanent manager.”

The big question right now is how much transfer budget will Solskjaer get from Executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward? Money cannot buy you happiness but it can help you get all the players you need to empower your squad.

It is no secret that the Reds need to overhaul the team. United last won the league under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2012/13 season. The Reds were the first winners of the competition, finishing 10 points clear of Aston Villa, and have been PL champions on 13 occasions in total.

Transfer Window:

The summer window opened on May 16, and as agreed by the clubs in November 2018, the summer transfer window will close on Thursday, August 8, 2019. This means that clubs have only 84 days to close their transfer deals.

According to the Premier League, “The transfer of players from another national association may take place once the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) opens on June 11.”

“Clubs will still have the ability to sell or loan players to other leagues whose transfer windows are open after August 8, such as to clubs in League One and Two, whose window will be open to 17:00 BST on September 2.”
