Soweto giants to lock horns in the CBL Cup
The new changes allow fans to select the starting line-up.
The Carling Black label cup set to return with a bang this year this was evident at Park Station in Johannesburg on May 28 as hundreds of fans gathered to witness the launch.
Following a year-long break, the Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be taking each other head-on this coming July.
This year they decided to open up channels of communication for the fans to voice their opinions on what changes they hope to see at future Carling Black Label Cup games.
The brand’s innovative approach in giving fans a bigger role in their team’s decision making was endorsed at the launch event by the English Football legend Ian Wright who was in attendance.

“We’ve seen around the world that the voice of the fan is the most powerful voice in football. Socially media, fan reporters, blogger, video games and the availability of what used to be “club only” data and technology has empowered fans even more to have the most in-depth knowledge and insight into their team’s,” Said Wright.
Fans are now given an opportunity to vote for the following game changers
4th SUBSTITUTION FOR GOALKEEPER– coaches will have an option of utilising a fourth substitution to replace the goalkeeper ( injury or strategic)
FANS SELECT THE CAPTAIN– fans can vote on the option once the starting line has been confirmed.
TWITTER SELECTS A SUBSTITUTION– Fans on Twitter can contribute to the selection of the substitute ( in addition to SMS)
ROLLING SUBS– 3-5 substitutes will have the opportunity to enter and exit the field of play at any time (as per 5aside)
YELLOW CARD TIME-OUT-cautions (yellow card) will result in 2-5 minutes out of play (off the field)
TWITTER SELECTS MAN OF THE MATCH– Fans on Twitter will have the opportunity to contribute to the selection of the man of the match.
MIC ON THE REFEREE-Referee wears a mic so that fans on TV can hear his interactions with the players.
Customers can enter by purchasing a selected Carling Black Label beer and dialling 120*660 unique code# to enter.
The much anticipated Soweto derby is set to kick off on Saturday, July 27 at the FNB stadium.
