The swearing of Members of Parliament (MPs) is currently underway in Parliament in Cape Town.
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng is presiding over the swearing-in after calling the first sitting of the National Assembly’s, sixth Parliament.
Members who have been already sworn in include, Cyril Ramaphosa, Nkosazana Dlamini -Zuma, Julius Malema and Mmusi Maimane.

The swearing in of Deputy President David Mabuza has been postponed. Mabuza requested that his swearing in be postponed following a report by the ANC’s Integrity Commission which accused him of bringing the organisation into disrepute.

Later today, the Chief Justice is expected to preside over the nomination and election of the president by Members of Parliament.
If members nominate more than one candidate for the position of president, an election process by way of secret ballot will take place.
