UPDATE: Patients at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital moved to neighbouring hospitals

The cause of the fire is still uknown.

Following the fire in the morning at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital, patients are bieng moved to other hospitals.

Professor Mkhululi Lukhele from the Head of Department said fortunate enough the fire never caused any damage to patients as they were sent to relevant hospitals and institutions such as Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, South Rand Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital District and Lenasia District Hospital.

The Chief Director of Joburg Health District Mogeru Morewane mentioned that the staff members who observed the appearance of smoke alerted security to check the source of smoke that was emerging and only the HR department was affected.



“All patients in the hospital were safety evacuated.

“The hospital has paused all duties and the building cannot be occupied by patients.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown and we assure you that everything is under control,”  concluded Morewane.
