Sowetans distraught following Marawa’s aka ‘Madluphutu’s’ dismissal

Robert Marawa fired via text.

The famous television and radio presenter, Robert Marawa has been given the boot by his employer, Supersport. Known to his fans as Madluphuthu, Marawa was fired after joining the television channel in 2006. As one of the country’s most expensive presenters.

Since last night Twitter has been booming with comments regarding a text message that was posted by Robert Marawa stating that he got a text at about 18:50 informing him that he should not bother reporting at the studio on Thursday for a Night Live show that he has been presenting.

Marawa thanked his fans for always being supportive of him since he was a sportscaster.

Tweets have been pouring in for Marawa’s removal and a lot of fans are not happy with the decision made by SuperSport.

Supersport released a tweet saying they are in a process of an exciting refresh of its local presenter line-up, which will be unveiled as part of their new football season campaign.

They further added that this restructure includes them not pursuing their contractual relationship with Robert Marawa.

Marawa will be missed by his supporters who used to follow him in the television channel.

This is what some of his followers in Soweto had to say after hearing about his dimissal.

Rethabile Manoko: “Robert Marawa is one of my heroes in sport presenting and it is sad to hear that he lost his job at Supersport.”

Nathi Msimango: “What a great loss. I always watch his sports show on the channel. It is shocking to hear the sad news.”

Paulos Dlamimi: “I am a sport fanatic and have been listening to Marawa on radio and watching his shows on television. His great job will be missed at Supersport channel.”

Mpho Mokgethi said “If a highly rated sports presenter is fired in a form of a text message, it shows the lack of professionalism by Supersport, and again, if maybe contract terms were stated in his contract, he should have been reminded months before the termination that ‘on this specific day, your contract will come to a conclusion’.”

Man United Brothers coach Thabiso Malepe was surprised to learn that Robert Marawa was fired he added that SuperSport should know better and handled this matter professionally unlike doing what they did.

“Marawa knew sports and gave different players a platform and South Africa as a whole what young players are capable of this is a loss to them,” said Malepe.

One of the local singers Sintu Sonyule Mkhulise said:  “I think now it’s based on a Personal level it’s no longer work-related, to me Robert Marawa truly understands Sports & has the experience, since back in the days I feel sad when I heard the story, I love how he would engage with the audience from SABC to Metro & Supersport TV will never be the same without Robert Marawa.”
