Riverlea High (in green and gold) played against Bree Primary (in blue and white) in their District 10 U14 school league games on the Riverlea Soccer Grounds on May 10.

The game moved at a very fast pace and before we knew it, the first half of the game ended with a score of 3-0 where Riverlea High dominated. The second half brought two injuries which resulted in two substitutions.

The injured players were Tshepo Motloung from Riverlea High and Siphesihle Nkosi from Bree Primary. Bree Primary’s player managed to get a goal in, however, a few minutes later Riverlea High scored another two goals ending the game with a score of 5-1.

Lemon-Rae Garcia, Sandile Molaeng and Delron Cero.

Goal scorers for the match were (in order of goals): Donel van Rensburg, Ethan Fourie who scored two goals, Mabarak Mohammed (from Bree Primary), Tyrelle Maynard, and Eathon Fitz.

Bree Primary’s Head coach Bafana Dlamini commented on the game: “the game went very well, Riverlea High was very good this time, I think it was sweet revenge because last year we beat them I think 7-6 but this year they have assembled a strong U14 team.

“For us its not about winning, its more about giving the young boys the opportunity to play football and to take them away from the bad things.

“I think it’s an achievement on its own for the boys to just participate.”

Riverlea High’s coach Kevin Moashetsi added: “We won 5   -1 so it was definitely a great game for us, the boys really enjoyed themselves. You could tell that most of the defenders could go forward and could enjoy the game.”

According to coach Moashetsi, Riverlea High still has to play two more games and believes that he really has a promising U14 team.

In the other cluster games, Bophelo Impilo Community School’s U14 team played against Langlaagte Technical High’s U14 team and won 3-1.

In the game between Johannesburg Secondary School (JSS) and Noordgesig Secondary, JSS won 3-0.
