The show is about Soweto's general lifestyle, culture, latest entertainment news and it covers the best hang-out spots and searches for the best Kota in town as well as sharing best health tips.

Soweto is popular for its rich history and heritage, it is home to many significant tragedies that were perpetrated by the apartheid regime, and as a result, it has become a notable tourist attraction to many South Africans. But the question remains, do you know Soweto better as you thought you did? Chances are that you don’t and Wake up in Soweto is a show for you to enhance your knowledge about Soweto.

This show is about Soweto’s general lifestyle, culture, latest entertainment news and it covers the best hang-out spots and searches for the best Kota in town as well as sharing best health tips.

The founder and producer of the show, Malebo Mogoshane stated that: “This is the first ever weekend breakfast show in Soweto TV ever since the channel started 15 years ago, it has never had a show of this kind and we wanted to bring the channel back to accommodating local talent, profile up and coming artists, profile local businesses, particularly art exhibitions right here in Soweto, we’ve got too many artists that don’t get a chance and opportunity to be showcased on TV and be interviewed. So this show is focusing on extremely raw talent.”

Presenters, Nombuso Mbatha and Nthabiseng Kgasi.

This show also gives a platform to local businesses that cannot afford hefty budgets to pay for advertising in order to expose their businesses, to come on the show and showcase their products and services.

According to Mogoshane, this initiative started a while back, but they needed to sort out so many things in order for it to come to life and it finally has.

“We’re waking up in Soweto right now, but the initial plan and goal of it, is to wake up in Africa, we will wake up in Mzansi and we will eventually wake up in Africa, that’s where we are taking the show.

“This is not just some concept of 13 episodes, it’s an ongoing lifestyle. Basically, when we’re talking about Soweto’s lifestyle we’re talking about people who buy Kota in the morning and later on they go to the gym. Or they go to the gym in the morning, later on, they go and buy a Kota.”

Mogoshane is all about empowering the youth of Soweto, the show is made up of fifteen staff members which includes three permanent employees, eleven freelancers and an intern from AFDA.

It has two presenters, Nthabiseng Kgasi and Nombuso Mbatha.

The show is fairly new but with a lot of experience and a very cooperative and dynamic team.

Mogoshane is no chancer in the production industry, he holds a track record of experience.

“My career began when I did the show Backstage, I did Rhythm City, I did City Ses’la season 2” elaborated Mogoshane.

The show started shooting at the beginning of March this year and is anticipated to air this coming Saturday.

Mogoshane believes that this show will resurrect the channel because it’s a show that talks with people of Soweto.

It’s the show that exposes the richness of culture in Soweto as well as the rawest talent that lacks a platform to be showcased.

It also has a segment called “The best Kota in town” which basically explores most townships around Soweto in search of the best Kota. “So what we do is we go around townships looking for the best Kota in town, you will find that a person who stays in Orlando West will say, our Kota is the best, so will a person from Chiawelo.

We want to incorporate everything into one, so that if a person visits Chiawelo can say, there’s a specific place the I saw in Wake Up in Soweto that sells the best Kota, so let me go and try it out.

So we want to interact with all the cultures of Soweto. Either you’re from out of Soweto or you want to find out what’s happening in, Soweto this is the show for you to watch.” Explained Thato Mazibuko, the show’s production manager.
