Eldos female boxer Melissa Miller defended the Bantam weight title she won last year

Eldos' boxer makes the community proud

“Get used to it. It’s a man’s sport- that’s what everyone told me,” said Melissa ‘Honey Bee’ Miller, a female boxer from Eldorado Park Extension Two who is determined to make a success of herself. “I truly love the sport and that’s the one thing that pushes me to always do my best no matter what,” said Miller.

“Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying it’s easy. If anything, it gets very challenging at times. This sport requires extreme discipline,” she added.

Miller, who has been boxing for a few years now, said that the key to her success is determination.

“You have to be committed to whatever it is you want to achieve. When training for matches I leave home at 5am to go for a jog, training doesn’t stop there because I train with my trainer in the afternoon as well. It takes hard work, perseverance, determination and patience to be great in whatever you do,” said Miller.

The female boxer made her community proud once again when she defended the Bantam weight title she won last year. The boxing match took place in Port Elizabeth on Friday, March 29 with Honey Bee winning the title once again. “I trained and prepared for the match a full month in advance,” said Miller.

She also admitted that the Port Elizabeth match felt different compared to other matches. “I don’t know how to describe it but this match was different. I was ready but my head wasn’t in the game. That said, I won because of staying committed to my training,” Miller added.
