73-year-old Farouk Baghas among the 64 graduates that graduated from the Greater Eldorado Park Youth Skills Development Centre

Education has no age limit

A total of 64 beneficiaries graduated from the Greater Eldorado Park Youth Skills Development Centre (GEYSDC) in Extension Five on Thursday, March 28.

Pastor David Human, who is an executive board member at the skills centre said that it brings him great pleasure to see so many young people wanting to better their lives.

“The centre was created with the youth in mind. We wanted to create a place for them within the community so they do not have to spend much on transport. When we see our students graduate, it makes us so proud because this centre is for them. Having our classes filled with beneficiaries is one thing but having so many graduates is special,” said Human.

He also spoke about why education is important.

“We believe that once our residents are educated; crime, drugs and teenage pregnancy will be a thing of the past. If our people are educated, they will then be more career driven, and that is the goal – to help graduates find decent jobs so they can sustain themselves,” said Human.

Angus Mace who is the facilitator said that the skills centre is committed to positively and effectively changing the lives of the youth.

“We have a variety of free courses, namely; computer courses, call centre and project management – to mention a few,” he said.

73-year-old Farouk Baghas was the oldest graduate and said that the centre has allowed him to push himself and to prove that he is still capable.

“You are never too old to better your life or to want more for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed being at the centre. There was so much respect from all the young beneficiaries,” said Baghas.
