Another ambition for Ambitiouz Entertainment

Meet the talented Lisa Mbali

24-year-old, ‘No more’ hit-maker, Lisa Mbali has been signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment, an independent black owned record label defined and inspired by a passion for music and developing young talent and prides itself on being youthful and forward thinking.

Mbali grew up in Port Elizabeth and said that she always knew that she wanted to be in the art and entertainment industry.

“I studied film in Cape Town so at that point in my life I thought that was what I would do. I majored in writing and when I moved to Johannesburg three years ago I stumbled upon music,” said Mbali.

“Music has always been there, I just didn’t think it was what I would do professionally,” she added.

Mbali said that she chose Ambitiouz Entertainment because of the distinct voice the record label possesses. “I’ve always been intrigued by the music the label produces and I truly love that the artists are allowed maintain their individual voices. It’s very important for me to feel like I am part of a company that is on the same page, other labels are so divided,” she said.

According to the musician, no matter the industry you’re in, there will be challenges. “My biggest challenge was finding my voice and trying to figure out how and what I wanted to say. There’s a lot of pressure to sound fresh and unique. As an artist you need to catch people’s attention but still stay true to yourself. So figuring out my sounds was the major challenge,” said Mbali.

The musician describes her music as soothing and mellow but vibey and draws inspiration from Reggae music and RnB Soul. She also said that she looks to nature for inspiration. The musician believes that she can learn a lot from the artists at the record label.

“I truly envy the work ethic of a few artists, namely Black Diamond, Emtee, Sjava, etc. They never seems to get tired and is always ready for a show so I can learn a lot from them,” she said.

When asked if she has any words of encouragement for anyone who would like to work in the entertainment industry, her response was, “It’s very important for you take your time. Be patient with yourself and take the time to learn your craft and master it. Don’t rush yourself,”
