Gods Ark Community Centre revamped

A facelift for Gods Ark Community Centre

Gods Ark Community Centre based in Kersiedorp received an unexpected and surprising upliftment from Sage Foundation on Thursday, April 18. The community centre has been in existence since 2010 and provides a much-needed service to the Kersiedorp community by being a foundation to scholars.

The centre assists underprivileged schoolgoers with homework and is also a feeding scheme.

Sage Foundation and the employees from its affiliated companies, Centre for Life, Synergy and T3T were all very enthusiastic to make a difference in the lives of the children. A new jungle gym and sandpit were erected.

The centre’s kitchen was revamped and the entire centre was repainted. The team spent two days working as well as interacting with the centre and its children. The children were provided with lunch and party packs.

Gods Ark Community centre is spearheaded by Graham and Ilse Van Wyk. Both said that the organisation was started with the sole purpose of assisting learners.

“The pass rate in 2010 was low and our children in the community were struggling with languages, and mathematics specifically,” said Van Wyk.

“This drove us to assist with homework and provide tuition and because of this, we found that reading was a major problem and that even the learners at high school were experiencing the same,” she added.

She also said that because learners often do not receive enough attention in class, the afternoon classes at the centre make sure everyone is catered to.

There are currently 70 children at the centre, with ages ranging from three to 18-years-old. A feeding scheme is on a weekly basis to ensure all the learners are fed.

“Our goal is to attain more members from the community to be actively involved to provide a better service to our children,” said Van Wyk. We want to thank Sage Foundation and its employees for their kind-heartedness and generosity and wish them well in their endeavours in making a difference in the lives of all,” she added.
