Eldorado police urges the community to commit themselves to protect their community against crime

'Community involvement in fighting crime works' - Constable Khobo.

According to Constable Khobo, the communications officer at the Eldorado Park Police Station, community involvement in fighting crime is key to ensuring that criminals are apprehended.

“I believe that if we work closely with residents and there is transparency we will surely apprehend criminals and ensure safety in our community,” said Khobo.

“The last few weeks have shown us that so much more can be done if residents commit themselves to protect their community,” she added.

According to Khobo, a 27-year-old male suspect was arrested for malicious damage to property in Freedom Park on Friday, March 8.

“It is alleged by the complainant that the suspect started swearing at her, telling her to move out of the house, because it is under his name. The suspect further pushed the complainant, then from there took a hammer and smashed all the windows in the house,” said Khobo.

“Eldorado Park SAPS were called and they acted swiftly and arrested the suspect for malicious damage to property. This suspect will appear in court soon,” she added.

In an unrelated case, two male suspects aged 22 and 20 were arrested for common robbery at Milnerton Street.
“It is alleged by the complainant that he was in the school premises when he was approached by these two males who demanded money.

They searched him, but could not find money but instead robbed him of his wristwatch. The suspects tried to run, but they were caught by one of the school teachers. Both suspects were arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS cells for further investigation.

In another incident, a 31-year-old male suspect was also arrested for common robbery at Oranjezitch Street.

“Allegations point out that the victim was walking along Oranjezitch Street on her way home from work, when an unknown male followed her, grabbed her cellphone then ran away. Residents ran after the suspect and eventually caught him. The suspect was successfully handed over to the police. He will appear in court soon.
