Bodybuilding is a rare athletic code in Soweto, hence there are a few people participating in it.

The athletes work hard to work on their muscles yet they cannot show it off in the location because of lack of development shows in the hood.

Last year June Veli Molefe who is also a bodybuilder organised his very first show at Gym company where he is currently a personal trainer and a fitness manager.

Molefe said it was his way of removing drug abusers from the street and motivating them to join the gym to keep fit.

Ten months later he held his second show at Orlando East communal hall. He alluded that organising the show was difficult because the person that was supposed to sponsor the show pulled off two weeks before the show.

At the time he was broke and had to pull in a few deals in order to make the event a success. He said he could not cancel because the athletes have to diet when preparing for the show so it won’t be fair on them and they won’t trust him anymore.

“I pulled a few strings for the show to happen. I called my brother James Makhura and dave who sponsor the whole show,” he said.

His wish is for development shows to grow and for local people to support them so that they can grow because only a few people were able to attend the show.

He added that they need the support of the people more than anything.
