Laerskool Claremont Primary Nkosana Kenny brought home three gold medals

"We are very proud of him, it's so wonderful to see how he developed," - Principal Riana Breytenbach.

Nkosana Kenny (11) a Grade Seven learner from Laerskool Claremont Primary who currently resides in Bosmont is making his school proud. Being the only learner from the school to go through to the North district athletics in Ruimsig.

Kenny brought home three gold medals for U12 High Jump, U12 Boys 150m, and U12 Boys 100m. On February 25, we interviewed the champion along with his principal at the school.

Principal Riana Breytenbach said, “We are very proud of him, it’s so wonderful to see how he developed. When I became athletics organiser three years ago, I saw a young man with a desire to achieve great things.

“He went to the district level in both U10 and U11 but this year was tremendous for him and his achievements are prove just how successful this youngster is.”

“As a principal, when you stand next to other principals, they seem shocked by Kenny’s achievements, and I say proudly ‘that’s my child, he is representing our school’. At our cluster championships, he broke three records in the U12 High Jump, U12 Boys 150m, and U12 Boys 100m.”

The principal mentioned that last year their high jump equipment was stolen. However, this did not hinder their spirit as they continued to practice.

The school participated in the cluster championships in Ruimsig on February 8 where the first two athletes went through to the district level and this was on February 16.

Kenny came first in all three divisions again in the district level and represented the district in the Central Gauteng Athletics the weekend of March 1 and 2 in Germiston.

At the time of the interview principal, Breytenbach said, “We are very excited to see what will happen at the Central Gauteng Athletics.”

Kenny expressed that he was excited about the competition and said that he enjoys athletics because he is very fast.

When asked what does he want to be when he grows up, the 11-year-old said that he would like to be an athlete.

The proud principal, as well as the staff at Laerskool Claremont, wished Kenny all the best for the weekend at the Central Gauteng Athletics.
