Changing kids’ perception of police one step at a time

Children are taught the importance of a functional policing service in our community.

Monica Lolwane Educare Centre in Protea North held a children’s march to the Protea Glen police station in collaboration with Vuka Ndlovukazi.

Upon arrival at the police station, the children were greeted by Sergeant Nokuthula Madondo who was standing in for communications officer, Sergeant Mashiteng.

Sergeant Madondo taught the young ones the importance of police in the community and aimed to debunk the perception of police that parents have instilled into children.

“Stop telling children to be afraid of police officers. Stop threatening them with police when they do something wrong,” Sergeant Madondo reiterated.

Monica Lolwane Principal, Refilwe Gabahlole, said it was important for children not to be afraid of police and that the day care would be working towards more initiatives that would be both fun and educational for the children.
