LISTEN: Playtime is just beginning for our children

The Dischem Mondeor team committed themselves to make further donations to other non-profit organisations in the community.

If anyone were to hazard a guess about which activity is most important to children, the answer would undoubtedly be ‘play time’.

This time allows them to explore their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength and is vital for healthy brain development.

From an early age, engage and interact in the world around them through play. At a time when many in our communities face financial uncertainty, buying toys for children takes second place when parents have to put food on the table.

The children at the Gail Britoe Foundation (GBF) received over 1,000 MicroPopz from Dischem last week. The Dischem Mondeor store manager, James Andrews, said that the reason he chose to donate to Eldorado Park was that since his last visit, he noticed the need for children to have decent toys.

He added that the MicroPopz campaign was used in big supermarkets across South Africa and that in order for one to receive a Micropop, you needed to spend a certain amount of money.

Andrews said, “The sole purpose of us donating to young children is because we want to put a smile on their faces. These MicroPopz or ‘Stickies’ as they are popularly known, are small figurines that will keep our children busy for hours. We want to encourage playtime.”

“Seeing the smiles on these children’s faces while we were handing out the stickies to them really touched my heart and reassured me that the donation was made to the right place. It’s so important for us to give back to our communities. Where there is a need, we will try to supply,” he added.

The GBF founder, Ensley Britoe, expressed his gratitude to the Dischem team and said, “I am so excited for the little ones today. Seeing them so excited makes me happy. I am thankful to Dischem Mondeor for taking the time out to spend some time with our children.”

The Dischem Mondeor team committed themselves to make further donations to other non-profit organisations in the community and in a community whose children need to be taken care of, the initiative will go a long way towards ensuring that our children develop cognitively through play.
