Posthumous 40-years birthday celebration

ANC celebrates comrade Zondo

The ANC’s Ward 47 branch hosted a posthumous 40-years birthday celebration event for the late comrade Millicent Zondo at The Page Buy and Braai and Car Wash in S’godiphola.

According to the event organiser, Vusi Kunene, Zondo would have turned 40-years-old on February 8 this year.

He said, “It was unfortunate that death robbed us of the opportunity to celebrate the day with her because she died on December 27 last year after a short illness at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. The objective of hosting this event was to celebrate her life and an enormous contribution she made to the ANC in Ward 47.”

He said it was people like Zondo who were at the forefront of mobilising the people to be proactive at all times. During her lifetime, Zondo played a vital role in the resurgence of the ANC in Ward 47 when the Nicholas Molokoane battled to form a quorum.

“Comrade Zondo took it upon herself and fellow comrades to mobilise the people in Ward 47 and she died happily after the branch was finally established and a new executive committee elected in December,” said Kunene.

Nhlanhla Mthembu urged fellow ANC comrades to follow in Zondo’s footsteps and reminded them of the importance of celebrating their fellow comrades’ contribution while they were still alive.

Mthembu added, “We are fast approaching the general elections on May 8 and it is vital that we intensify our efforts with door-to-door campaigning for the ANC. We should remind our youth that the ANC is alive in Ward 47, that is what Zondo would have like us to do.”

He said it is important the ANC work hard on recruiting the undecided voters to secure victory in the coming elections and added that Zondo was a shrewd ANC campaigner who, if she was alive today, would have reminded them of the importance of recruiting the youth to grow the party’s ranks in the ward.
